That's a good question. One thing is that people who evacuate usually wind up in even worse situations and then aren't allowed back to their houses for weeks...….so its a gamble. I could boogie to Jersey and stay with friends but I'd like to see what God has in store.

So, how far from the coast do you live?
As the crow flies probably not even 3 miles. there is a barrier island and intercoastal waterway between me and the ocean.
So, let me get this right. You and the wifey decided you wanted to move from NJ (?) to some place warmer. Looked all over the maps. She decided that flaccid dick state pointed toward Cuba looked good. You agreed and asked her where. She said as close the east shore as possible ( You know where the Hurricanes slam like a bullseyes every few years for 100,000 years). I'm guessing the real estate agent left with a smirk after that closing.
No you desert dweller...lol My brother and most importantly my elderly mother have been down here for 20 years and now that she is not getting any younger I wanted to be closer to help if needed. In all honesty......I don't LOVE Florida. I may not stay here forever hence my mobile acquisition. I bought this place fully furnished for 25,000 and only pay a monthly lot fee. If I eventually want to leave I don't think I will take much of a hit.

Spot on. I'm sure you've noticed in FL and everywhere else the hurricane evacuation routes. Close one side of the Interstate to evacuate millions. My suggestion is monitor the path closely, you can evacuate pretty damn fast. Unsaid, if it looks like a direct hit near you, book a motel room for 1-2 weeks ( Power outage at home) deep some place like N Georgia.

On a deal like that, I'm surprised there is any kind of a downside. If it turns out the storm does come your way, sit outside and film your trailer house. Later you (or one of your heirs) can watch it in reverse and it will be like watching it being built in really fast motion.

I'm not sure where exactly you live on the coast, but 24 hours since you started this thread, looks like it may hit more south. Around Palm Springs, maybe.

Barring the fact that he never said that, I guess our granite head Pa idiot doesn't realize that this idea was suggested and studied in earnest almost 3/4 century ago. You are a stupid old fox news watching retard, exactly like your president. I have absolutely no doubt that the fucking retard said that. After he is out of office, whenever that happens, a freedom of information request will prove that fucking moron said it. The fact that you can't see, or won't admit how fucking stupid trump is, just goes to show that you are either in denial, or as brain dead a fucking idiot as he is, or both.
According to International Spy Museum historian Vince Houghton, whose book Nuking the Moon details wacky military and intelligence schemes, an American meteorologist named Jack Reed, one of the nation’s earliest hurricane hunters, appears to be the first to seriously consider bombing a hurricane. His calculations held that maybe one or two 20-megaton bombs might be able to deflect a hurricane from land. He called for a test of the theory, but found it embraced by precisely zero policymakers. Frustrated, Reed declared his idea dead simply because it was “politically incorrect.”

As the understanding that the problem of radiation was not “merely one of detail” grew, strict parameters grew up around the atmospheric testing of nuclear weapons. Soon, ideas like that which Trump has evidently suggested were cast to the fringes of scientific thinking; Reed’s idea would actually now be prohibited under international law by the Peaceful Nuclear Explosions Treaty.
Is it dead just because the Lieberals declared it politically incorrect, Westtexasdunningkrugereffect?
Currently AFK.

I have a house that I'm currently renting out in Fort Meade FL that's right on track to be clobbered based on the forecast. The difference is that it's a block cement ranch and it's right in the center of Florida & not close to the coast. In 2004 it got nailed by Hurricane Charlie but I only lost the shed and a car that got squashed by the two live oaks on the property.

Now that the oaks are gone I haven't bothered getting costly insurance as it would eat into my rental profit. I like to gamble though, so we'll see how it makes out after this storm. If the house just needs a new roof it's still worth not getting insurance, because insurance is like 2500 a year and we've already gone 15 years without insurance, a new roof is around 5000, you do the math. 8-)

Yeah, the 1950's was a crazy time on trying to figure out how use it. Eisenhower's "Atoms for Peace" is infamous. Hell, the Iranian nuclear program today is still based on the reactor we donated to the Shah back in the 1960's
