Someone mentioned on tv yesterday that the oil we pump out is the wrong kind of oil for the production of gasoline.
That’s the first time I’ve heard that, is it true.?

They were probably talking about Canadian heavy oil. There are only a handful of American refineries that can process it.

no. but don't limit your search to refineries in Texas. There are large refineries in Louisiana and mississippi. California has a huge refinery and so does Indiana.

What am I missing here? According to the article if all gas taxes were removed California gas would still be slightly over $4/gal. I filled up here in Nebraska a few days ago for $2.85.

CA has its own blend of gas refined only for itself, leading to higher prices.
