As you get older, and the kids leave, you might find your house is too big. Ridiculous to heat and dust a home meant for a larger family. Anyway, that’s what I’m thinking these days.

Maybe 25 years ago I saw a news magazine piece about a Greatest Generation couple who got a luxury RV and traveled the county. They were playing big band music. I don’t think you can do that for many years before it’s time to check in to a more permanent location.

Sold our house and moved into an apartment / condo this past fall. Oddly, it's bigger than our house, all completely new (in a 94 year old building) and I don't have to mow, clean gutters or shovel snow ever again. We can walk to a couple different movie theaters, about 10 restaurants and two bars are walkable and another 50+ (non chains) are < 3.5 miles away. I'll move my office to within walking distance in a few years.

We routinely do 3 mile walks in the summer. From our new apartment we can visit the art museum and zoo and be home within that 3 miles. Both are free to visit in ST Louis.

Thinking about selling our vacation home. There’s a lot of work and expense. Rentals don’t cover the real cost.
Our main home is too big. But the wife wants to stay in the area because our kids live nearby. I guess my life is forfeit to obligations, between elderly parents and kids.
