I was watching this documentary last night about Jim Irwin. He was an astronaut that went to the moon. Anyway, while on the moon they had trouble with getting the steering to work on the lunar rover. So he prayed that night and the next morning it worked. He took this as a sign of God being with him. Blah blah blah.

Dial it forward and he gets back to earth and decides he needs to minister. And in doing so, he figures out that the best way to do it is to find Noah's ark. So he devotes most of the rest of his life to finding that ark. And it turns out that Mt Ararat is not an ideal place to go hunting for stuff. Really cold and rocky there.

So, I'm having a hard time listening to much without wondering how an astronaut can think that water got high enough to put a boat up there in the first place.

If you're smart enough to be smart you are less likely to have the neurological failings that make you believe in fairies, but it is clearly possible to be afflicted with them and also be smart in more practical ways. Sad but demonstrably true.

Actually, the World flood story was recorded by many ancient civilizations. All almost identical (Well, except the Noah thing) Archeologists think they know where it comes from. A few hundred of thousands ago, before people, a land obstruction at the few mile wide Straight of Gibraltar gave way, flooding the Mediterranean and lowering World sea levels by hundreds of feet. Then, around 8,000 BC, the super narrow gap in the Dardanelles near modern day Instanbul, Turkey did the same thing and flooded the present day Black Sea within a year or two. They think that was what they were describing.
