Last night I stopped by and chatted with a potential client. We met in his office which was on the second floor of a really old strip mall. None of the doors had any signs on them except the suite number, everything painted white - no windows from the hall into the office, really old tile floor. I'm guessing they were all salesmen, real estate managers, contractors, stuff like that. Then right in the middle was this big glass wall with a woman's hair salon and other type services that looked straight out of the 60's and the place was busy. No signs on the outside of the building to give you any clue it was in there, you had to climb a very steep staircase to get there. I LOVE stumbling across companies like that. How does a group like that exist?
We had a really old 20(ish) story building downtown at one time that had probably 40 jewelers in the same way. Every floor had at least one jeweler and unless you were walking down the hall, there was no way to know they were in the building.

I love finding great unknown hole-in-the-wall out of the way restaurants and diners. If you can feed me and my family with good food at a decent price you'll have a loyal customer in me. I don't mind the occasional chain restaurant but I also like to support neighborhood places if possible.

We very rarely eat at a chain for dinner unless it is with my parents or in-laws. I'd rather invest in a local restaurant if at all possible. There are probably >80 non-chain restaurants within a 3 mile diameter of my house. The Italian neighborhood is one with probably 15 Italian restaurants.
Just counted - 117 if you include Ice cream shops and coffee / cafes.
