this is exactly the kind of story that i have been waiting to hear. i have been wondering what the "actual" effect of that tax legislation would mean. I won't have my taxes done until october, so i have really been anxious to start hearing some real (honest) stories. Just talking to people in general, my conservative friends think it will be a good savings on taxes. My democratic friends all say that it won't make any difference at all in taxes. They say that for every cut, there was some deduction dropped to counter act it.

Even the CPA's have had a hard time explaining what the real effect will be.

By 2026 most of the tax advantages for individuals will be gone. Only businesses will keep their cuts. Meanwhile the country it's saddled with an additional trillion dollars in debt with 60 of the biggest companies in this country reporting they paid zero Federal taxes do to breaks and loopholes. That is 3 times as many companies from 2005-2015.

Not one of us (esp the Canadians) will ever become PotUS, and have possible gains to our business dealings either as a presidential candidate or as the sitting president. Our president is Civil Servant #1 and is supposed to be serving to the benefit of the citizens of this country, and not to his bank account.

If I become president it'll be because everybody else died. Or they offer a shit ton of money. Either way odds are I won't end up as president.

Imagine if Amazon actually paid Federal taxes and we closed some loopholes? Its amazing to me that I paid more in Federal taxes than Amazon. Dont lump ALL businesses in with those behemoths. Most business owners are people like me: a regular guy just trying to do the best he can. We're your neighbors, brothers and friends. Small business owners are the largest employer in the nation and we are the economic engine that drives this country. Its ok that we finally got a tax cut.

Dude........ Nobody is lumping in small business. Just stating a fact about the cuts and how they aren't permanent for all these non business individuals who are clapping their hands while they were hoodwinked again.

I think i have posted here enough to show my iissues are with big corporate interests and the politicians who cater to them with slack rules, no oversight, anti labor legislation and basically stacking the deck in favor of the wealthy few against the regular guy and small businesses. For most people in this country it's just try to keep your head above water.

Congrats, I really mean that. You are a small business owner, as am I, and you are better off. Not everyone is though, especially blue collar workers.

It was not having the deductions. Married with a kid would have reduced the tax burden a bit by giving me 2 additional deductions and also putting mr. In the married tax bracket which is a bit lower.

At that point they're no longer either a candidate or the president. Now they're a private citizen again, and I don't really care what they do. But as a candidate and sitting official holder, we really should have some idea what they may using their public position for.

Not only did I have to do my 1040 long (no friggin' postcard!), but I gave back the piddling pay increase the Rethugs were bragging about to us poor schmucks, while they were giving tons of cash to their corporate masters and 1%ers.

And in NJ I'm barely middle class.

You can't look at the number of refunds or the amount of said refunds to get a true analysis. You have to look at whether or not people actually paid more or less in taxes for the year. It may be that taxes went up overall and I'm not taking a side here, just saying that just because refunds are down doesn't mean taxes went up. I paid more in taxes this year because of the cap on SALT (I'm in NY with its ridiculous property taxes), but I have friends who make significantly less than me and they paid much less in taxes this year and got a refund.

I think the folks that got surprised were mostly ones that didn't realize the IRS had changed W-4 withholding (without making a lot of mention about it=higher looking paycheck for average schmuck).

Now the IRS is coming out with a nightmare of a new W-4 calculator so businesses withhold enough. And inflicting it on regular taxpayers (postcard size tax form my ass). And people will get to see what they really got out of that tax giveaway!

It smells like a political move to make regular people's paychecks look bigger than they should have been under the Rethugs new tax giveaway to their bosses.

I got the news from my accountant yesterday. This year refund is $1066 less than the previous year, and I brought home $900 more from the "tax cuts" ($20 a week, -7 weeks out due to illness), so I lost $26.
