No. Just know where unions fit in on the worldwide economic stage, which is nowhere. Deal with it. So I'll ask again. What's the deal. You have have always seemed level headed. Seem to be going off the deep end. Sit on Uncle WTC's lap and we will figure it out.
An internal vote at our company resulted in 88% AGAINST joining the union.Blast wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 1:51 pm Yet so many labor unions make it difficult to shitcan lousy workers. I was in a union and they did nothing for me. They got me in, I started training but after a certain point the companys would just lay off a mid level apprentice and hire a new entry level guy that the Yukon was always pulling in. The union never actively worked to help me get into a long term job, they wouldn't let you go to union shops and apply. I also got a call from them one day telling me they got us all a 5 cent an hour raise but it needed to go to their political action fund. I told him I didn't want it.
Now I manage a union shop and the guys don't want the union here. By the end of the next month there will be no one here paying dues.
If the union's demands are met are you going to refuse the increased pay and benefits?Reservoir Dog wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 12:59 pm If they don't sign a new collective bargaining agreement this weekend we go on strike on Monday. It's fucking ridiculous.
The blood-sucking union wants $10 an hour for supervisors, $8 for skilled workers, and $6 for yardmen and groundmen. Are you fucking kidding me. $40 bucks an hour to load reel trailers or stand there all day with a stop/slow sign in your hand? It's retarded.
The cock sucking union can tongue my hairy ass if they think I'm going to walk a picket line! They can keep my fucking strike pay. There's no way in hell I'm walking a picket line.
Other than quitting my job... perhaps you could enlighten me as to what other options I would have.spudoc wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 2:38 pmIf the union's demands are met are you going to refuse the increased pay and benefits?Reservoir Dog wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 12:59 pm If they don't sign a new collective bargaining agreement this weekend we go on strike on Monday. Not really. You have people who enter a profession that has historic union involvement and they complain about how they don't want to be in a union. But what is lost on them is that those professions wouldn't be worth joining if it hadn't been for the work that the unions put in over the years. And these same people also don't seem to realize that management would return to pre union conditions in a second if they could.Biker wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 2:41 pmDumb, even for youspudoc wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 2:38 pmIf the union's demands are met are you going to refuse the increased pay and benefits?Reservoir Dog wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 12:59 pm If they don't sign a new collective bargaining agreement this weekend we go on strike on Monday. Please tell me how a 24 year old kid with nothing more than a high school diploma deserves $40 an hour to stand around all day with a stop/slow sign in his hand.spudoc wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 2:48 pm Not really. Many of the things they fought for are now entrenched labor law. Return to pre-union conditions? You mean paying a legitimate market wage? Honestly, as RD mentionined, do you think a guy or girl standing there holding a stop sign deserves $40 an hour. Thats fucking bullshit and you know it.spudoc wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 2:48 pmNot really. And what do you know about this anyway? Does the union take part of your allowance that your wife gives you every month?
You do realize that everyday there are business lobbyists who are tirelessly trying to tear down entrenched labor laws? And I'll worry about $40/hour sign holders when I actually see it.CHEEZY17 wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 2:58 pmMany of the things they fought for are now entrenched labor law. What if you’re an asshole manager that just gives out raises arbitrarily? Not saying you actually are but there are people out there like that.
Biker wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 6:45 pmNobody gives out a raise just for the fuck of it, you dipshit
Here's what you fail to understand; union schleps get guaranteed wages and increases just for showing up. Doesnt matter if they duck balls at their jobs or not. Executives get most of their income not from salary, but from performance bonuses and stock awards. If they suck at their jobs, their income goes down.
And I see you are missing the "Big overall" picture. What is causing the friction between management and the work force? Could it actually be the Unions themselves that are supposed to be there for the Workers (and is usually not). I work in an industry that is effectually union-free, at least locally. Everybody makes good wages, the companies treat the contractors with respect and dignity. They layout the rules/ regulations (usually safety issues). You follow them to the T, work hard and do a good job and they reward you with more work. You know, like how it's supposed to happen. Throw some Union issues/ complications into that mix and you are just creating tensions that don't need to be there. Oh, and I get to keep all my wages. No thanks to that racket.Stapes wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 6:59 pmBiker wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 6:45 pmNobody gives out a raise just for the fuck of it, you dipshit

That is quite wrong. Take my job for example. We had production quotas to make every day. Installs/repairs. Doesn't matter how huge or small the job was it got X amount of time to complete it. It was a constant battle. GPS in all trucks and monitored all day. You stop for coffee before getting to your first job you got suspended.
Your constantly taking too long on jobs. You get suspended
Boss comes out on a job and you dont have your safety equipment on. Suspended
Any tool in your hand and you didnt have your safety glasses on. Suspended.
Constant harassment.
Managers dont like a guy. They dont have to fire him. They just suspend him for 30 days. That's 30 work days. So he is out 6 weeks with no pay. Comes back one day and manager will find something else to suspend him for. another 30 days. They just starve the guy out. By the time the union gets an NLRB case heard or get the guys money back its probably a year if not more.
My father was an ironworker and later became a company foreman. If some member wasnt doing his job he got sent back to the hall
I know one thing. When there aren't any workers the job doesn't get done. When a manager is missing......not a beat is missed.
The AFGE would disagree with you.WestTexasCrude wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 7:26 pm And probably the "Elephant" in the room that spudoc and stapes never mention. In this global economy, where companies have multiple options, having Unions involved in your workforce (Mostly) is an absolutely Job-kiiler for the State/ local economies.
We did. That's why we elected Donald Trump. Do you see the connection now?

And what has he done? He signed the USMCA. It's NAFTA 2.0. If you don't realise your country is still losing manufacturing jobs to Mexico, then I don't know what to say. Trump hasn't done fuck all to stop that. I know you won't believe it, and there's nothing I can say, but....WestTexasCrude wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 8:57 pmWe did. That's why we elected Donald Trump. It was hilarious watching your elected "Pretty Boy" Trudeau, who takes his marching orders from his globalist overlords in the EU, react when Trump threatened to cancel NAFTA. Heart attack. Once it was re-negotiated, you could see the total relief on his face when he met Trump. Priceless.Reservoir Dog wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 9:02 pmWestTexasCrude wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 8:57 pmWe did.
