My latest hobby is one I used to do on college. I have had a fish tank since I was a kid, then had a business servicing aquariums in college to help pay tuition. Then stopped.

Now back into it.

Reminded me of an old hobby and one I'm still kind of dabbling in which is building/repairing electronics. Anybody still doing this?

I was an avid CBer and had a lot of friends in the HAM community and I was always repairing equipment and building "boots", power supplies and new fangled antennas. Also grew up building my own R/C gear as it was not widely available like today.

In this day and age, most electronics are impossible to fix due to miniaturization and the availability of parts. I find it's getting really hard to get parts. I still buy the odd kit online to assemble and it blows me away at the cost. I just recently bought an ignition coil circuit, 3.7V - 15KV for $1.39 and free shipping. It would cost me $5 just to buy the rectifier diode alone.

I still do. Partial to vacuum tube radios, but early solid-state equipment piques my interest, too. Mouser Electronics and Ebay are where I find most through-hole components, the rest I scrounge at Hamfests and out of used equipment. Thinking of picking up a knock-off SMD rework station from Ebay to add to the bench. I also have a Fry's Electronics within three hours of the house, may have to do a road trip to check it out.

I ran a bushel of apples through a juicer a few weeks back and made 3 gallons of hard cider. Last week I made a ginger syrup out of 3 inches of fresh ginger and poured it in with some cinnamon and cloves. I'm going to have to do that again. It turned out great. I'll try and do it on a 5 gallon batch next time.

I'll try and do it on a 5 gallon batch next time.

If your ABV is high enough you can freeze distill that and make a decent apple jack.

There's a product called "Turboclear" that you can add at the end of fermentation. Works very well.
