Re: Does anyone have a vegetable garden?
I have various citrus bushes/trees: Key lime, a couple types of kumquats, and a big Meyer lemon. We also have a number of types of leafy spices, including a couple types of mints we use for cooking and drinks. I have a couple of jalapeno plants, and a beefsteak tomato plant that's sorely pissing me off. The wife loves her grape tomatoes, and she loves to push her crop into my face since my beefsteak has grown not a single one.
We're also going to put in some blueberry bushes for next year, and I'd dearly love to have a pomegranate tree. But neither of us are serious gardeners.

Blueberry bushes can be fickle. If you like berries try raspberry or blackberry bushes. Those fuckers will grow like weeds with very little maintenance. Watch the blackberry bushes though; they WILL takeover if you don't keep them in check.QillerDaemon wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2019 7:44 pm I have various citrus bushes/trees: Key lime, a couple types of kumquats, and a big Meyer lemon. All of this is obviously observant of my climate. Not sure how those would do down there.

Re: Does anyone have a vegetable garden?
Blueberries do very well here in central Florida. Tucked in among what's left of the citrus groves are many commercial blueberry farms, and many of them are open to the public for picking. About the only things we can't grow here are crops that need a good cold snap. We're also thinking of a fruiting mulberry tree or two at our other property behind our house. And yea, we know those can be weedy trees, too.CHEEZY17 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2019 8:22 pmBlueberry bushes can be fickle. If you like berries try raspberry or blackberry bushes. Re: Does anyone have a vegetable garden?
I haven't had the energy for gardening this year.
I've got a few plants inside: Peppermint, All-heal, an avocado tree (which will be toast once it becomes root-bound) and on-going green onions in water. At almost $2 a bunch up here, fuck that noise.
I've also started and donated 10 apricot trees and will soon be starting sweet dark cherry trees.

My first year trying but I'm having a lot of success once I made a deerproof enclosure for everything. Doing peas, rainbow carrots, green beans, tomatoes, cukes, and strawberries. Plus kiddo is growing a Jack o lantern pumpkin for Halloween.

That's my issue here. Neighbor feeds the deer daily. Just don't have the energy to battle the wildlife this year.

I love home grown tomatoes but they don't grow too well here. Wife has some herbs that do pretty well.

Re: Does anyone have a vegetable garden?
No. Nothing grows here. We don't waste our time. Instead of wasting hundreds of useless hours in futility, we just buy our S American tomatoes at the local store like every other sane person.

Re: Does anyone have a vegetable garden?
Once you grow your own veggies and fruit you realize how bland store bought stuff is. Homegrown tomatoes and strawberries are just two things that blow store bought shit right to dust. You also know for certain that chemicals and other assorted additives havent been sprayed on. Plus there is the added bonus of Jose and Maria not taking a shit on your veggies.WestTexasCrude wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2019 11:01 pm No. Nothing grows here. We don't waste our time. One got my first batch of peas. My landlord had a huge table frame outside she let me use, I wrapped it in deer netting to keep them and the bunnies out.

Home grown tomatoes are pretty much a different species from store bought.CHEEZY17 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2019 11:22 pmOnce you grow your own veggies and fruit you realize how bland store bought stuff is.
