What ever you do, DO NOT go down that path. That is what ultimately doomed old UJ, even though it took years. Back story- UJ was cruising along just fine around 2013/14. Most hung around, some left and came back, some left and never came back. Healthy number of new members all the time. Then JD and a couple of Mods got tired of spending their first half/hour- 45 minutes of every day clearing out the spams from the night before. Demanded a more vigorous captcha from Hoover. They got it and it was a disaster. So vigorous, almost impossible for any new members to sign up, all the hoops to jump through. Almost zero new members the last 3 years. Whatever you do, please think of a different solution.

I honestly don't remember that. It has been years. Now that I activate my memory banks, I think in one post I may have suggested bolstering the captcha to possibly solve the problem. I wasn't suggesting making the shit so hard wired that we didn't get almost any new members for years. Not on me, that was Hoover's deal.
