any of you badass mf'ers play with ttube amplifiers
or more to the point, any experience with chinese stereo amps using kt88 tubes, J-Bird want's to know....

"Oh ,go suck yourself!" crazy Nicky, at his grandma's funeral he claimed he didn't remember me, so I'm thinking shaken child syndrome because old Arnold (their grandpa) use to shake the shit out of Billie, Nicky, and Mike and yell "you don't do that, you don't do that". I think it affected Billy the most.
Anyway it appears when testing kt88 tubes, at least on my tester, that when checking for shorts there is number 8 on the selector and when dialing to number 8 the short indicator faintly flickers because resistance is low enough that it's starting to make indicator flicker. Even the brand new tubes in my new amp does this but I have now played the amp about 15 hours and it plays fine. The true test of a tube though is to try it installed and then determine if the tube is at fault, kind of like a capacitor, both can test good on a tester, but when installed they may not work as they should.

unless you have a schematic you are pissing in the wind. You need a multi-meter. Tubes are basically a diode with a grid/screen to enhance electron flow when the diode conducts to light the filament. Tube tester will check the diode part,maybe,but nothing else. Voltage has to be on grid/screen to really make the tube to function. Flickering 'short' light can be a clue but where in the circuit is the 'short' detection circuit? Most cases it is the final stage of a class A amplifier that usually fails. Mutual Conductance (\(G_{m}\)) Tester: Measures how well the tube amplifies a signal. This is the best method for matching pairs or quads of KT88s.
The Process: Set the tester dials to the specific KT88/6550 settings listed in the tester's data book, plug the tube in, let it warm up, and press the test button.
2. In-Amplifier Bias Test (Most Practical)If you do not have a tube tester, you can test the tube directly in the amplifier using a digital multimeter (DMM). Warning: Amplifiers contain lethal voltages. Only attempt this if you are experienced with electronics safety.

it's the testers I used. Mine testing the first amps tubes they all flicker the short light slightly, new tubes in new amp before I ever turned the amp on tested the same way. I then took them to a guy that repairs amps and guitars and his tester tested the same way, so i fired up the new amp with the new tubes and I've got about 100 hours on it and so far all is good. The old amp I'll have to play with swapping tubes from left side to right side. The problem with working on that amp it weighs about 75 pounds and it is a bitvh to move around and I have 3 or 4 cassette decks torn apart now and also am working on some speakers so I don't know when I'll get to amp. I'm starting to think the tubes aren't the problem, mainly because all 8 tested the samme way as far as short light lighting and needle deflection fopor the other tests.
