NJ Gov Doesn't Want to Turn Over Names of Illegal Non-Citizen Voters
The Department of Homeland Security claimed that there were 35,000 non-citizens on the voting rolls in New Jersey.
New Jersey claimed that it was only 6,000 and that it was an ‘accident’ due to a ‘glitch’ and that only 400 of them had voted, and then promised to protect the illegal voters.
Then Gov. Mikie Sherrill signaled that she would try to protect the illegal voters
“It would be really the utmost hypocrisy for the state to charge them when it’s our fault,” Gov. Mikie Sherrill said. “However, I would not put it past the federal government, so we are working very hard on ways in which we can protect people here.”
Even assuming that the state made an error (a convenient one that went in favor of the ruling party) has nothing to do with charging their actions.
Voting by non-citizens is still illegal. This is the equivalent of the bank accidentally putting a million dollars in your account. It doesn’t make it legal for you to withdraw and spend the money. And if you do, you’ll get in trouble.
Now, Sherrill is doubling down on defending the illegal voters.
“It is illegal for any noncitizen to vote in a federal election, and every unlawful vote dilutes the voice of American citizens,” DOJ spokesperson Kiersten Pels said. “The Civil Rights Division is investigating and will keep pressing states to clean their rolls. The Department is prosecuting cases where the law and evidence support it.”
Sherrill has said there is “no evidence” the 400 people swayed the outcome of an election. In a statement Wednesday, a spokesperson for Sherrill suggested the state would push back against the DOJ request — but did not outright say the state would not comply.
“The Trump administration has a long history of weaponizing the Justice Department for political purposes and attempting to overturn election results,” Sherrill spokesperson Sean Higgins said. “Governor Sherrill has been clear that she will use all the legal tools available to her to protect New Jerseyan’s personal information.”

New Jersey Rejects DOJ’s Request for Records on Noncitizen Voter Registration Error

New Jersey is refusing to hand over information to the U.S. Department of Justice involving a voter registration error that allowed thousands of noncitizens to register to vote in the state.
The DOJ requested the full names, dates of birth, nationalities, residential addresses, and registration dates and locations of 6,600 people involved in the error.
New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill rejected the DOJ’s request for the data, saying in a letter on Tuesday that state and federal privacy laws prohibit releasing it.
“The request had no legal basis, and I will always protect New Jerseyans’ personally identifiable information,” Sherrill said on X.
Harmeet K. Dhillon, the assistant attorney general for civil rights at the DOJ, said the governor’s “refusal to cooperate with federal law enforcement does nothing to protect law-abiding NJ voters.”
“NJ has a legal duty to keep ineligible voters off its rolls, & our request is grounded in that legal authority. DOJ will get this information through all legal means!” she said Tuesday in a post on X.
