Retrieving the Uranium in Iran

#1

Post by Animal »

It would seem to me that in order to actually achieve the goal in Iran, either the US or the Israelis or a combination of the two are going to have to send in a team (or teams) of ground troops to go down into the tunnels and bring back every pound of enriched Uranium. I have no idea what a mission like that would look like, what kind of equipment it would involve or how many people it would take, but that seems to me to be the only way to know for sure that they are going to have to completely start over from nothing.

I have read that they are considering it, but most everyone says its pretty much impossible.

It seems as if they are estimated to have around 1,000 lbs of enriched uranium.

When the hardline regime leadership of Iran has basically said they will never stop trying to achieve weapons grade I really don't know what to say. It sucks either way.
You can't just let those fucktards get a nuclear bomb and I simply don't know how even militaries as awesome as ours and Israel's can confidently say that they 100% got all of it.
It's a shitty situation where even the best possible outcome could come at a very high cost.

Sometimes the solution to these things are the simplest. If a child is threatening to hit other children with a stick, then you punish them and take the stick away. If they get another one, you increase the punishment and take that one away too. If you continue to do this even the dumbest child will eventually learn to stop.

that was my first thought. just keep pounding those bunker buster bombs until you get it. i think they said its too far under ground. Plus, if you don't put human eyes on it, and physically carry it away, how can you be sure you really got it. We can't keep doing this every 6 months.

I'm old enough to remember when they said this about North Korea.

Seems like you are a slow learner.

Well North Koreans don't really believe that their salvation involves washing the world in blood. So there's that I guess.

North Korea was a rogue state and part of the "axis of evil". Preventing them from getting nukes was sold to us as being vital to US and World security because "Rocket Man" was an irrational leader of a dangerous regime and would use nukes.

Then they aquire nukes and the rhetoric disappears completely.

It's amazing.

I'm also old enough to remember that Iran is the undisputed world-wide leader in the sponsorship of international terrorism.
DPRK aren't angels, for sure, but they are way farther down the list.
Do you think a fundamentalist Islamic regime should have access to nuclear weapons?

They aren't even on the list anymore despite being the first country mentioned when Dubya made his "Axis of Evil" speech.

Is it possible that countries actually aspire for nukes as a deterent and not to cause a doomsday attack that would obliterate them as well?

I dont think anyone should have nukes but I definitely think that a country that is not a signatory of the NPT (and has nukes) should not be the one deciding how and when to police them.

We attacked during negotiations, after Trump claimed we destroyed their nuke program, because Israel wanted us to. That is the bottom line.
