Damn shame. It seems like our only long term threads around here are the usual ones created by the usual posters. Since this site went active 6 months ago, there has been nothing like the explosion of a thread like WooHoo's LOLZ thread that lasted years. This "Deep Thoughts" idea from OP seemed very promising until the usual autistic shallow thinkers hijacked it. And we know who they are.

The way people connect to the Internet has changed. Most people don’t sit in front of a computer or even a laptop anymore, so they are much less likely to find or use board based services. Even Facebook is seeing this. We’re hanging on to it because we liked it here. I’ll bet the demos have gone way up, too.

But the internet and tech will continue to change, and there will be some other hive come round eventually.

one thing i did find interesting on a documentary that i watched a few weeks ago is that the hawaiian islands won't always be around. they are part of an under water ocean ridge that has been rising and sinking (moving west to east) for a long time. so eventually the most westward Hawaiian island will gradually sink and a new one will appear to the east. and they will just continue to leap frog toward mexico.

It's actually a hotspot that's staying still, and the ocean crust is moving Westward over it. Many former islands have been identified under the Pacific that were once part of the above surface island chain.

Eventually the Pacific will disappear, and the Atlantic will be one huge ocean.

The land limits the connection/intermixing. It's partly why there's ocean currents (for instance, the Gulf Stream).

Crustal plate movement can cause rather extreme climate changes, particularly on land. Once we get back to having just one big landmass the interiors can get very dry, for instance.

And the currents change with land movement, making wet places into deserts and vice versa.
