CQ, from what I've heard you don't need any advice on how to properly smoke someone's meat.
Seriously, you can't put one out over the plate like that without someone swinging.

If McDonalds makes breakfast sandwiches with bacon in them... why can't you smell bacon cooking in a McDonalds?

If the Earth is an ever changing World, why is the elevation of the highest mountain almost the exact same as the deepest part of the Ocean.

well, the deepest part is about a mile deeper than the tallest peak. That's not the exact same.WestTexasCrude wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2019 10:07 pm If the Earth is an ever changing World, why is the elevation of the highest mountain almost the exact same as the deepest part of the Ocean.
one thing i did find interesting on a documentary that i watched a few weeks ago is that the hawaiian islands won't always be around. they are part of an under water ocean ridge that has been rising and sinking (moving west to east) for a long time. so eventually the most westward Hawaiian island will gradually sink and a new one will appear to the east. and they will just continue to leap frog toward mexico.

Re: Deep thoughts...
It's all erosion on high, Continental drift down below. And true about the Hawaiian's. It's actually a multi-million year volcanic deep plume moving East inches per year. Must be pretty impressive since it's created the largest mountain on Earth measured from base to height in the middle of the ocean.Flumper wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2019 10:12 pmwell, the deepest part is about a mile deeper than the tallest peak. If the Roman Empire had not collapsed when it did, sending Europe into a 1,000 year "Dark Ages", "a" Columbus would have discovered the New World before the Vikings and man would have landed on the Moon in the 1680's. That's deep right?

Re: Deep thoughts...
It's actually a hotspot that's staying still, and the ocean crust is moving Westward over it. Many former islands have been identified under the Pacific that were once part of the above surface island chain.Flumper wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2019 10:12 pmwell, the deepest part is about a mile deeper than the tallest peak. Eventually the Pacific will disappear, and the Atlantic will be one huge ocean.
Re: Deep thoughts...
Holy shit, I had not thought of that. It's not the hot spot inching eastward, it the Continental drift heading NW (like Cali) over the plume that makes the SE the most active and the ones NW already submerged.FSchmertz wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2019 11:19 pmIt's actually a hotspot that's staying still, and the ocean crust is moving Westward over it. Re: Deep thoughts...
Now that I think about it, that's totally wrong. The Hawaain (sp) Plate unlike the Cali has been heading SE. The excinct island are toward the NW. The active islands are SE.

Re: Deep thoughts...
I wonder if NASA could take some thermal imaging of the island chain from space, maybe that could be helpful. But alas NASA is a federal agency and there are private homes on those islands and the feds cannot take thermal images of private homes....even with a warrant

Re: Deep thoughts...
OK, had to think about it, Got it Pacific plate heading SE. N American Plate NW. Thus the San Andreas fault and all the volcanoes in the Cascades.
