Interesting that the 15 safest cities (and it is technically a per capita cost) in that same article weren't quoted. Could it be because a large portion of those cities currently have non-republi-con mayors?

Several things strike me about this list. First, any list of dangerous cities that does *not* have the city of Miami-Dade on it is a complete lie. Oh, their mayor is a Republican, beloved by Rhonda Santis.

Two: what is the source of this list? Other lists I've googled have lists in other orders, including some with Republican mayors. What are the statistics that back this particular list?

Three: is it counting areas of a city that aren't in fact within the city limits? For instance, Orlando, run by a Democrat mayor and not on the list (whew!), has a number of dangerous areas that are not within its corporate limits. Pine Hills, or as we refer to it locally, Crime Hills, lays almost completely outside the city limits of Orlando. This is true for some other areas, Orlando has no control over their patrolling and Orlando's mayor can't do a thing to ease criminal behavior in them. I don't live in Orlando's limits, so I have no say or vote for/against our porky but normally effective mayor.
If you can't be a good example, you can still serve as a horrible warning.

So you couldn't bother to actually read the article you were so quick to quote and do your own research? This says all I need to know. And here's the link that you couldn't search for https://www.moneygeek.com/living/safest-cities/.

Roving packs of nogs like to hit up the surrounding suburbs looking for cars to steal. Happens on a daily basis. The north side needs to be doused in kerosene and torched.

I walked from Lexington Market to the Baltimore aquarium with a woman from Baltimore. They thought we were going to die. I had a few interesting conversations along the way but it wasn't that bad.

Back in the late 80's, a college group of us went on a trip to NYC and stayed at a hotel near Times Square. I got bored late one night and walked around the area, which had a lot of porn shops and nudie studios then. Disney cleaned all that up a few years later, but when I was there it was supposed to be a highly dangerous area for tourists. I strangely never felt the least bit in danger, and got onto the subway for an adventure. Somehow, and I don't remember how, I wound up in Brooklyn. I then started to worry a bit, but went over to a group of young, tough looking "mobster" sort of guys and asked how to get back to Manhattan. I figured if this was the way I'd meet my end, well, what're you gonna do. Turns out the guys were friendly and got a kick out of a lost stranger from Houston. We had a nice chat about things and the area, then one of them took me to subway station and gave me directions. As he left I told him that I heard all sorts of bad things about Brooklyn and its people, and kidded him about thanks for not jacking me up. He laughed and said, it's really not as bad as TV and movies made it out.

The next morning, I told my Manhattan-born host about my casual experience in Brooklyn, and she was genuinely apoplectic about the adventure, she truly believed I could have died and how dare I take such an excursion at the risk of my life like that. I honestly felt I was in much less danger in Brooklyn than I would have been in certain parts of east Houston. What was the big deal?
