i was being serious though. its disturbing to know that will will actually run completely out of some elements at some point. And yet, you can still walk into a store and buy helium balloons for a birthday party.
Hard to believe we could actually run out of Zinc?

There's mines in NJ that probably could be reopened if necessary, though I believe they closed because it was easier to mine elsewhere. NJ used to mine Iron too, but it was hard rock mining and you don't have to do that to get iron elsewhere.

P.S. I guess I'm saying "how much is this about running out, and how much is it about how expensive it'll be to get it elsewhere"?
I was going off of the premise that the map (chart) was accurate. It says we have a "serious chance" of running out of Zinc within 100 years. It doesn't say "its going to cost more to get to whatever we need". So, if you are right, and there is plenty and running out isn't a problem, then the map is useless. Helium was the only example that I had any knowledge about. But i have also heard there is more helium its just going to be ridiculously difficult to get.
I wouldn't say it was useless even then. If it's going to cost a lot more to get what you want, can you really afford it? Economic consequences have...er...consequences?

P.S. I mean, what if obtaining something involves "grabbing" a meteor and moving it "nearby" for mining? Or living on it?

Future economic historians will look back with the "Wow" factor when looking over the US dominance in the 20th Century. Economic historians right now looking back over the last 25+ years will find their "Wow" factor in China. Came totally out of the blue. Amazing what happens when you finally dump Mao and communism in your economic calculations. A lesson one side of our political spectrum has never nor will ever learn.

it also goes to show how much money you can print and spend when you are a communist run government.

I remember back around 1996 reading something that blew me away. At that particular moment in time, economically the US was out producing the entire rest of the World combined. Now, Clinton had a lot of things going for him- low energy prices, no wars, the end of the Cold War benefits, etc but at the end of his 8 year term, he handed over to George W a budget surplus. Every President and Congress in the last 22 years since then has pissed that all away. And worse.

don't confuse a budget surplus with no debt. all a budget surplus means is that he actually had a year where he spent less than we brought in. And he did it for one year, which didn't actually lower the national debt, the debt went up, i assume because of the interest on the debt. The debt during those years that Clinton was president went UP around $1.2 trillion.

Well, to put it into perspective, in 8 years, Clinton added about $1.2 trillion to the US national debt. In the first week he was in office, Biden passed one bill that spent that much.

I'll never forget the dumbest spending gimmick I've ever heard. Surprised who did it- George W. 2008 or so during the mortgage meltdown. Send everybody a check for $(whatever) thinking they would go out and spend their windfall and boost spending.  Hello add to deficit.

you might never forget it, but at least remember it right first before you don't. there were no "checks mailed out". There was a stimulus package, but it amounted to tax rebates of $300 for people filing taxes.

And BTW, read today that Biden (or I guess his handlers) caved under pressure about that whole Student Loan thing and excluded private lenders. Cuts out 770,000 loans. I noticed it was kept under wraps by the usual media.
