Supposedly one of the actors (Maisie?) said something to the effect that the ending is "heartbreaking". So what would make for a heartbreaking ending, other than most all of the major characters winding up dead? Arya and Bran are worgs, and so wouldn't die in the normal sense. Tyrion had made some terrible decisions, and so his luck may wind up running out. Taking possibly Jon and Dani with him. Something (yadda-yadda) with most of the rest. So either Cersei or the Night King survive to the very end to take the throne, certainly either would be a heartbreaking choice.

I fully admit I've never been able to watch a single full episode, almost all of my viewing has been the hundreds (thousands?) of YT clips, plus commentary. I love Arya, but she might not have a long life with Gendry. Or wouldn't that be something, Gendry takes the throne as the new White King.

Gendry is a Baratheon after all and the original intent of Ned and Robert was to join their houses.
