Jagger still hanging in there at 75----and the band out lasted the sissy's Beatles....noticeably better with Brian Jones but still had a sound all their own over the decades

they produced and toured for decades unlike today,a band gets 1 or 2 hits over couple years then wind up as a warmup for a juggler at free oustside concerts. Most hip-hop groups come to mind as low staying power, that is unless they're killing each other like Tupac and Biggy Small--thats entertainment.

Somebody lied. The Stones are, in my estimation, worthy of "the Greatest Rock n Roll Band in the World" title but only when it comes to producing great albums. As a live group they range from pretty passable to horrid. Mostly it stems from Keith and Ronnie being crazy fucked up during the 80s and 90s. They were decent live in the early seventies but that was mostly due to the greatness of Mick Taylor.

what concept 'live' ever is as good as a recording on a high end stereo? I guess few. Its all about feeling the music pound on your chest and being nearly or as fucked up as the band. Although Pink Floyd at Joe Robbie came real close to 'great live' concert --but who knows, probably was a recording

There are bands that absolutely kill it live. And I don't need a note for note reproduction of a song in concert. But the Stones (and let me reiterate, I consider them the best band in history) have never been a good band live. Most of the live recordings from the 70's that you can access on youtube have been heavily remixed and overdubbed.

I’ll give you that, I’ve only ever seen them in stadiums. As a rule I hate stadium shows

I was a concert fanatic for about 30 years. I couldn't even guess how many I've been to.

The best live bands I've ever seen...

Rush
Tom Cochrane & Red Rider
Roger Waters
The Tragically Hip
Bob Seger
AC/DC
John Fogerty

The best concert I ever saw: Aerosmith backed up by Nazareth (it took me 3 days to recover and I didn't have a voice for 4)

The worst concert I ever saw: (tie) The Cars (beyond bad) and Bob Dylan (I actually left the concert halfway through)

I can listen to 'Their Satanic Majesties Request' in its entirety. But have to pull single songs to listen to on their other albums.

Do you have any suggestions if I decide to give their full albums another try. Need to get my money's worth for my Spotify subscription.

Years ago my college roommate went to a Grateful Dead show. The Dead was touring with Tom Petty and Bob Dylan. He said it was a toss up as to who was the most fucked up on stage between Dylan and Jerry Garcia. He loved the Dead and still almost walked out of that concert

I’m not a huge fan of the Brian Jones years so anything before 1968 is just okay. Let It Bleed and Sticky Fingers are both fantastic albums. If you take a liking to those then Exile on Mainstreet will knock you out. Beggars Banquet does a nice job of filling out the Mick Taylor years. (Chronologically it would be Beggars, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers and then Exile)
