Piggly Wiggly was the OG Grocery Store

Did you know that Piggly Wiggly was the first grocery store that allowed customers to browse around for their own things? Until the guy invented Piggly Wiggly customers came in and gave a list to someone that worked at the store and they would gather the things for you.

Piggly Wiggly was also the first grocery store to put price tags on items and the first the use baskets for the customers to put their things in. Hand held baskets. It was a while before some guy hit upon the idea of a rolling basket.

A&P was the next grocery store to follow Piggly Wiggly's store design.

According to wikipedia there is still around 600 stores. I thought the chain was long gone.
