Pretty cool thing happening today near me. West Texas Open Road Race. Usually about 150 individuals/ teams. Close down a highway for the day. 120 miles- unlimited speed limit. Teams from all over. Everything from Classic cars, sports cars, trucks, etc.

We have the Glamorgan/503/507 route to Peterborough that people use daily like it's the Autobahn. Yeah, most people don't realize that your average tire is going to fail at high speed if you do it for long. Next time you're thinking about racing cop cars, take a look at their tires. Those things are meant to withstand abuse and speed.

For anyone interested, Google "Big Bend Open Road Race". Have about 5 pretty cool videos. The one from a CBS Evening News episode is pretty informative about the rules, etc.

Meh, it was a weak attempt at a joke. I-4 is the connector interstate road between Tampa and Daytona Beach that runs through the Orlando area. Right now, between about Disney up to almost Sanford, it's being rebuilt. To be widened and expanded, to include a "Lexus Lane", a toll road in the center lanes. The rebuilding has horribly upset the life of the average Orlandoan because of the shitty road re-engineering, with a drive many equate to a bad game of Mario Cart. Because I-4 is one of our few main traffic arteries, and because there are very few viable alternatives that bypass it, most Orlandoans are forced to grin and bear it. It doesn't help that half of Orlando's drivers are completely selfish shitheads, with no regards to the road, other drivers, or the law. And because of the road work, there is almost no law enforcement. I said "fuck Texas", and pretty much mean it. But there is one thing I do miss about the Houston area, and that is the purposeful way roads and highways are built and rebuilt. The purpose is to get drivers to their destinations efficiently, and Texas road engineers do a remarkable job of it. Here in Florida, and more specifically Central Florida, I'm not sure our road engineers have any qualifications, or live here to suffer from their work.
Cloverleafs, wonderful wonderful cloverleafs! We don't have those here. And decent Texas barbecue, ours is mostly that shitty Carolina style 'que. Blech. Those are the only two things I miss about my native state.

Yeah, I would have to rate Texas near the top on highway construction and maintenance. Just watch my 24 min video. 60 mile long Hwy 285 in the middle of nowhere.
