Man arrested for threatening to kill Schiff, Schumer over impeachment
He's charged with threatening to assault and murder federal officials.
A Western New York man was arrested Wednesday on charges that he threatened to kill Rep. Adam Schiff and Sen. Chuck Schumer.
Salvatore Lippa, 57, of Greece, New York, was charged with threatening to assault and murder a federal official on account of the performance of their official duties.
According to the criminal complaint, on Jan. 23, Schiff's Washington, D.C., office received a threatening voicemail that included a death threat.
Lippa started the threatening message by calling the congressman "Schiff, Shifty Schiff," invoking the nickname used by President Donald Trump for Schiff, the lead House manager during Trump's impeachment trial.
Almost two weeks later, on Feb. 4, Schumer received a threatening voicemail at his New York office that also contained a death threat.
In the threat, Lippa paired Schumer with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, saying "Hey, Schumer, you and Nancy Pelosi are..." according to the complaint.
When questioned by U.S Capitol Police, Lippa admitted to making the threatening calls to Schiff and Schumer because he said he was upset about the impeachment proceedings, prosecutors said.
“The rights secured in our Constitution carry with them certain responsibilities. When it comes to the First Amendment, that responsibility includes the obligation not to threaten to kill others,” U.S Attorney James Kennedy said in a statement.
Lippa is due in federal court in Rochester on Wednesday afternoon. He faces up to 10 years in prison.

Man Sentenced to Prison After Admittedly Threatening to Shoot Rep. Ilhan Omar
A New York state man was sentenced Friday after admittedly threatening to shoot Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota, 5th district). Patrick W. Carlineo, Jr., 56, is to spend 12 months and one day in a federal prison on a count each of threatening to assault and murder a United States official, and being a felon in possession of firearms, according to The Department of Justice. He must give up six firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition, authorities. The defendant will also serve three years of supervised release.
Allegations surfaced last April. Authorities said Carlineo called Omar’s Washington D.C. office, and operated under the false claim that the congresswoman was part of the Muslim Brotherhood.
“Do you work for the Muslim Brotherhood?” Carlineo told an Omar staffer, according to the DOJ. “Why are you working for her, she’s a (expletive) terrorist. Somebody ought to put a bullet in her skull. Back in the day, our forefathers would have put a bullet in her (expletive).”
The staffer claimed to remember the defendant saying that he’d put bullet in the congresswoman’s “(expletive) skull.” The office reported the call to U.S. Capitol Police.
Authorities also went after Carlineo for gun possession. He had a loaded .45 caliber handgun, three rifles, two shotguns, and lots and lots of ammunition at home even though he was convicted of felony criminal mischief in Steuben County, New York in 1998, the DOJ said.
The defendant pleaded guilty to charges last November. He faced up to 10 years behind bars. Omar asked for a lenient sentence.

We must apply a system of compassion to criminal justice.
Who are we as a nation if we respond to threats of political retribution with retribution ourselves? …
“Punishing the defendant with a lengthy prison sentence or a burdensome financial fine would not rehabilitate him,” she wrote at the time. “It would not repair the harm he has caused. It would only increase his anger and resentment. A punitive approach to criminal justice will not stop criminals like Mr. Carlineo from committing a crime again or prevent others from committing similar acts. Only restorative justice can do that. He should understand the consequences of his actions, be given the opportunity to make amends and seek redemption.”

FBI says man killed in Missouri wanted to bomb hospital amid coronavirus epidemic
A man suspected of plotting to blow up a Missouri hospital and was killed in a shootout with FBI agents was apparently frustrated with local government action to stop the spread of coronavirus, the FBI said Wednesday.
Timothy Wilson, 36, died Tuesday in Belton, Missouri, a suburb of Kansas City, after members of the FBI’s joint terrorism task force attempted to arrest him. The FBI says Wilson was the subject of a “months-long domestic terrorism investigation."
It’s not clear whether Wilson was wounded by FBI agents or if he died by suicide. Officials say he was armed and after being shot was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The incident will be investigated by the FBI's inspection division, standard procedure for shootings involving agents.
FBI officials describe Wilson as a potentially violent extremist known to express racial and religious hatred and antigovernment sentiment. They say that while under surveillance, Wilson wanted to commit an act of terrorism, specifically a bombing, and had considered several targets, including a school with a large population of black students, a synagogue and a mosque.
But as the coronavirus pandemic began to take hold in the United States and local officials in Missouri issued stay-at-home orders, FBI officials said Wilson became aggravated.
"With the current health crisis, Wilson decided to accelerate his plan to use a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device in an attempt to cause severe harm and mass casualties," the FBI said in a statement.
Wilson considered various targets and settled on an area hospital, the statement said. The hospital was not identified.
Wilson had taken all the necessary steps to acquire the materials needed to build an explosive device but was always under close watch by agents, the FBI said.
The shooting occurred when the FBI tried to arrest Wilson when he arrived to pick up what he thought was a car bomb. But there was no actual bomb and authorities say no members of the public were ever in danger during the investigation.
Belton is about 20 miles south of downtown Kansas City.
A phone number belonging to someone associated with Wilson could not immediately be found Wednesday night.
As of Wednesday, there have been 356 cases of the coronavirus illness COVID-19 in Missouri and eight deaths, according to the state health department.

The lawmaker, who is currently running for his fifth term, has a rich history of making incendiary comments.
In 2017, he compared Adolf Hitler to Abraham Lincoln in a Facebook post responding to someone criticizing a bill he introduced to make gay marriage illegal in North Carolina.
“Lincoln was the same sort of tyrant, and personally responsible for the deaths of over 800,000 Americans in a war that was unnecessary and unconstitutional,” he wrote.
He later issued a very dubious walk-back. “While both Lincoln and Hitler were obviously bad guys, what Hitler did was worse and I apologize if people thought I was putting them in the same league.”
And in 2011, he urged his fellow assembly members to herald in a return to public hangings, specifically for doctors who perform abortions.

here's another complicated math formula for everyone.
there are two political parties (democratic and republican). the black people are all in the democratic party.
Which party do you think a racist would say they were in?
Extra Credit: Does this mean (pick A or B)?
A. All republicans are racist?
B. All racists are republican?
