Hi-speed internet
I had the first high speed ADSL modem Bell put out in '97. 2.2Mb down, 1Mb up, static IP for $64.95/month.
Now it's 500Mb up/down fibre for $74.99/month. Techs will be tweaking it to improve.

It seems it's never as fast as they claim. "Your mileage may vary" comes to mind. In this case, it's speed. Mediacom offers 1 gig for $139.00 a month. That may or may not include Wireless 360. Which is just a wifi extender in your home.

But with fibre it's usually pretty close.

Re: Hi-speed internet
I guess my question is this- Unless you are doing some kind of high end multi-player gaming. Why in the Hell do you need those (300+) speeds? Past a certain point, I'm not sure you would notice much difference.
Plus your whatever system you are using has to be able to handle it or it's useless.

Re: Hi-speed internet
the 9 up and down is AT&T and i think it just goes through the phone line. I don't think they hava any kind of high speed or fiber or anything in this industrial area.rule34 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 03, 2024 12:00 amAt what price? If you have fibre to your modem you should get pretty close to what they say.stonedmegman wrote: ↑Wed Jan 03, 2024 1:35 amThis stands true with twisted copper pair.8-TrackJones wrote: ↑Wed Jan 03, 2024 1:22 am It seems it's never as fast as they claim. But if you have fibre-to-the-curb or fibre-to-the-house, then the phone lines or coax in the walls of your house will bring you down a fair bit.

If you can't be a good example, you can still serve as a horrible warning.

Re: Hi-speed internet
Just checked and 105 download and 27 upload. It's wireless and the tower is 3.5 miles away. 20 dollars a month.
They are currently running fibre optic in my entire county, pop 6000. supposed to be done by march. That will cost a lot more than I am paying now, I'm good with what I have.
Now cell phone service on the other hand...............

I'm not home to check but mine looks like this also. Switched to fiber on the 500 plan. It's always over 700.

And since nobody answered from before, I'll bring it up again. What's the use of having blazing internet speeds (248, 351, 622, 731, whatever), when your receiving devices (PC, cell phones, smart TV's, tablets, whatever) can only handle something much less (105, 130, 165, 200, whatever)?
