Kaspersky Lab reported that one of the world’s largest computer manufacturers, Taiwan-based ASUS, had mistakenly installed a backdoor program dubbed “ShadowHammer” onto the computers of thousands of customers after hackers infiltrated the company’s automated software update system.

My last laptop was an ASUS, complete pile of dogshit. Having Windows installed did not help

Good 'uns and turds from all the major players in my experience. Pot luck unless you wait a while for model reviews to build up, you can't go by manufacturer.

I do. I buy Dell XPS. Never had a bad XPS system. Both laptop and desktop.
I too have had good luck with Dell over the years. They're still selling strong these days. I was just at Costco and they had a number of their laptops on display. They're also strong sellers at Micro Center.
