I was at the dentist this week and the hygienist asked if I brush 2x per day (the cleaning took < 10 minutes). I said at least, usually 3x.

That's when I was informed of the stats:
Percent of women who brush their teeth twice a day 56.8 %
Percent of men who brush their teeth twice a day 49 %
Men with Gingivitis > 50%

What the fuck are you people doing?

At least twice.. occassionally 3.. floss before bed.

Twice a day here. Mornings and night. Mostly because I don't have a toothbrush handy at lunch time. Usually I'll pop a piece of gum in if I'm dealing with the public as a just in case measure.
I deal with soccer moms most of the day so I do try to make sure I look, smell and act appropriately. Nothing worse than dealing with an otherwise fairly attractive soccer mom and getting a wiff of some stank breath. There's a few I deal with that I swear haven't brushed in years.

I brush once a day, most days. I floss every six months or so before I see the dental hygienist, because I feel bad for her. Flossing is her life and she really seems to care whether I bother or not. I have no fillings, no gum disease. Given the success of my lackadaisical approach I'm inclined to think there's a bit of genetic lottery involved in dental hygiene.

You're British so I'm shocked you've brushed in the past decade..

That said im afraid you're right about genetics. Some folks get lucky.. some don't.

Twice a day for two minutes with an electric toothbrush followed by a mouthwash.

Only floss the teef you want to keep.

When I was a kid they told me to brush hard even if my gums bleed. As an adult they tell me not to brush hard because it erodes away the gums. FTW
