Fleece-Lined Jeans

Wife bought me a couple pair of them for Christmas, and they are great. I'm in one of the "Polar Vortex" areas, and will be working outside roughly half the day. In addition to my carhartt overalls, these should help immensely. Just sorry I waited so long to get a pair of them. She also picked up a heated sweatshirt for me, I may try that, tomorrow. Stay warm!

What I say isn't what you say I say fuckface. Actually, that's more something like you & your buddy Trump would say.

We had a hell of a time getting the crane running today. Had to point a torpedo heater and the hydraulic pump the get it started even with the block heater. I'm running on a staff of 2 today now that I sent the operator home. To make matters worse they've canceled beer deliveries today out of fear that it'll freeze up on the trucks.

That tends to happen with near beer.

Fleece should be your mid layer. Get a Helly Hansen base layer. They use the very best Merino wool and their wicking is second to none. With a good base layer, fleece for a second layer, and your carhartt overalls you should be able to take on almost anything.

Ya, the whole layering thing is important, especially in extreme temps.
In the military it was know as the 3W's: Wind, warmth and wicker were your 3 layers, the wicker layer being the most important. If you started sweating your other 2 layers dropped in effectiveness.

I shoveled and snowblowed my driveway in my PJ's this morning, no layers, and I sweat my balls off. 20 degrees and windy. If I had a beer I would have drank it before it froze.

20 isn't too bad. I don't/didn't get dressed in more than a windbreaker for shoveling either......easily work up a sweat.
My daughter lives in Mt. Clemens Michigan with my granddaughters. The high today is minus 4F......school is closed until Friday. I wouldn't shovel anything at -4

You can't shovel anything at that temperature, snow becomes concrete

Unless teachers are forcing kids to have recess outside, why wouldn't they go to school?
We get some of that here in NH. If it is too cold, we might have a 2-hour delay. What good does that do, besides fucking up getting your kid to school and getting to work late. One time last year it about 6 degrees out, and after 2 hours it was 4.

This year the schools put out a preemptive strike basically saying they were not going to do that any more. Paraphrasing: Buy your kid a scarf and a hat or DRIVE them to school yourself. You live in NH where it gets cold each and every year. If you are surprised, it's on you.

You've got the whole snowbird thing backwards bro. You visit Michegan in the summer and go back to FL in the winter.

That would mean you're not too far from me, either. Mt. Clemens is about a 1-1.5 hour drive north for me.
