This is true. I wouldn't think to create a whole thread dedicated to an old blurry photo. Congrats. You win.

That warning from the German govt was published in the NY papers the Saturday Lusitania sailed. Oh, and in violation of US neutrality laws, it most certainly carried contraband. Millions of rounds of rifle ammo and 100,000 (not loaded) artillery shells.
Re: Last known photo of RMS Lusitania 1915
There were tons of "what if's" involved mainly involving timing that nobody could predict. See the top grainy photo, for example. Notice that only 3 of the 4 funnels/ boilers are blowing smoke. After the War started, passenger bookings of course declined major. Cunard, to save costs ordered the ship (instead of top speed) to run on 3. Reduced speed from 27 to 21 knots. Still way enough to outrun any U-Boat. But it cost it something like 180 miles per day. Freak of timing- instead of sailing into Liverpool 36 hours before U-20 deployed in the S Irish Sea, it got there the day it went active. Super fog went to clear day 45 minutes before the attack. Things like that.

Fake news - because this is the last known photo of RMS Lusitania

Re: Last known photo of RMS Lusitania 1915
It was really bad, though. Shock to the shipbuilders that one of their largest ships (water tight doors) could be torpedoed and sink in 18 minutes. 1.200 dead (600 bodies never found). 180 infants under 1, only 12 survived. Bodies washing ashore on W Ireland months later. Not good.

Winston Churchill as first Lord Admiral hoped this would draw the US into the war. Even evidence it's the reason the ship was sailing without naval escort. It didn't work. We staid neutral for another 2 years. He bemoaned us not getting involved saying it could have shortened the War, saving millions of lives. Not mentioned was it would be US soldiers making up the difference.
