What's the Maximum Number of People that can live on Earth?

I think the total world population right now is almost 8 billion. I just wonder what the cap is for the number of humans that can live on this one planet at the same time?

What got me thinking about this was watching some show not long ago and I think they said that in the history of the world around 3.5 billion people had been killed. That number might be high, because on google source said its around 1 billion. It got me thinking that if those 3 billion people hadn't died, that would have obviously had an enormous impact on the number of people alive right now. Instead of 8 billion, it might have been twice that.

Do you mean how many people we have resources to support, or how much space can possibly be occupied by humans, or how much weight the earth can support before it throws off its rotation? There are so many different possible answers.

I think the answer would be "which of these would be the limiting factor, and what's that number of people?"

Actually saw an interesting National Geographic article on future population trends about 3 years ago. I was kinda shocked- very optimistic. Get the modern economy to areas of Africa and Asia needed , plunging birth rates. No way you can predict, of course. But some studies suggest we we will be down below 4 Billion in a Century or 2. God knows, the Earth needs a break from us.

I'm not a sociologist, I'm just thinking what criteria might be used to determine "maximum". I thought I heard at one point that only a small percentage of landmass on earth was actually inhabited so by that logic, theres a whole lot of remote and desolate corners of earth we could spread to.

On the food front, farming insect protein takes drastically less land and resources, so if we switched to crickets instead of cows, a lot more people could be getting fed per square foot of farmland.

I dont even know if the earth's rotation getting thrown off is a thing, I may have just made that up while high.

That's not far off. Do us a favour and never reproduce. Let that gene pool die out before it's too late.

Or while Trolling. Same difference . You do realize that the motel cleaning JetCityWoman may know who Einstein is, but to her "Relativity" means everybody's daily bowel movements. Get the Fuck out of here, Troll. Ends of the Earth until you come clean.

Drawing from George Carlin like inspiration, the earth can support many dozens of billions of people. Unfortunately the people will fuck it up, not the earth.

If the weight of all the people is looking likely to throw the earth of it's rotation, we can just tie a big rope to africa and have everyone pull on it really hard
