Battery, via excessive and enthusiastic sponge baths

A nursing student was arrested at Reidland Community Hospital after several patients filed complaints regarding "inappropriate sponge baths."
Witnesses allege Darla Thornton, 22, displayed an "unusual enthusiasm" during patient hygiene routines. One elderly patient, Mr. Fitzpatrick, claimed Thornton spent "an eternity" cleaning his elbow, accompanied by what he described as "thrilling and disturbing at the same time."

Hospital staff became suspicious after noticing a significant increase in patient requests for sponge baths, even among those previously averse to bathing. Security footage reportedly shows Thornton entering rooms with a bucket overflowing with suds and a mischievous grin. "She kept asking if I wanted 'extra bubbles,'" recounted Mrs. Gable, a recovering hip surgery patient.

Thornton, currently suspended from Farley Community College nursing program, faces multiple counts of misdemeanor battery and excessive lathering. Her attorney maintains her innocence, claiming she was merely "providing a superior level of care."

The sheriff's office said Wey also kissed and had sexual contact with another 17-year-old student on a hike.

Wey was booked into the Travis County Jail on $75,000 bail for each count and was in custody Thursday afternoon.
