Entire staffs at 3 Sonic locations quit after wages cut to '$4/hour plus tips'

The longer I was in the service industry, the less I focussed on people's tip percentage. If people were fun and cool, but tipped 10% that was OK. If they tipped 25% but were cocksuckers, it wasn't worth it.

I wonder how much of her tips that she pays taxes on? Also, does she comment when she gets left an overly large tip or only when she gets a small, or no tip? If she's not happy being a waitress, then she should go get a job where she's not relying on customers to leave her money. Go get a skill, and earn a set wage.

Great advice. So when you go to restaurants in the future it will only be self serve buffets or McDonald level servers. Should make for a great experience.
Lets be honest here. People suck and the only reason your getting half way decent employees at most restaurants is because the tips make it worth sucking it up. Take away that incentive and your valentines dinner will be at a Sonic.

She’s a professional who worked her way through college waiting tables. Many years experience. She does it now for extra cash and she enjoys it somehow. I don’t denigrate servers. It’s an honest living.
