The way people connect to the Internet has changed. Most people don’t sit in front of a computer or even a laptop anymore, so they are much less likely to find or use board based services. one thing i did find interesting on a documentary that i watched a few weeks ago is that the hawaiian islands won't always be around. they are part of an under water ocean ridge that has been rising and sinking (moving west to east) for a long time. so eventually the most westward Hawaiian island will gradually sink and a new one will appear to the east. and they will just continue to leap frog toward mexico.
Eventually the Pacific will disappear, and the Atlantic will be one huge ocean.

Well, kinda.
The land limits the connection/intermixing. It's partly why there's ocean currents (for instance, the Gulf Stream).
Crustal plate movement can cause rather extreme climate changes, particularly on land. Once we get back to having just one big landmass the interiors can get very dry, for instance.
And the currents change with land movement, making wet places into deserts and vice versa.
