Now this is very interesting and useful to society. We need to really start thinking in these terms.

i was being serious though. its disturbing to know that will will actually run completely out of some elements at some point. And yet, you can still walk into a store and buy helium balloons for a birthday party.

Agree on the last principal but situations do change. 99% of the World's helium could only be found at that one location in the Tx Panhandle but I've read they found a huge new supply somewhere in Africa.

well, the helium was found at that Texas location because we put it there.

OK, that's correct. But, the helium deposit reservoir is there because the helium gas fields are close.

Hard to believe we could actually run out of Zinc?
There's mines in NJ that probably could be reopened if necessary, though I believe they closed because it was easier to mine elsewhere. NJ used to mine Iron too, but it was hard rock mining and you don't have to do that to get iron elsewhere.
P.S. I guess I'm saying "how much is this about running out, and how much is it about how expensive it'll be to get it elsewhere"?

I was going off of the premise that the map (chart) was accurate. It says we have a "serious chance" of running out of Zinc within 100 years. It doesn't say "its going to cost more to get to whatever we need". So, if you are right, and there is plenty and running out isn't a problem, then the map is useless. Helium was the only example that I had any knowledge about. But i have also heard there is more helium its just going to be ridiculously difficult to get.
