Does anyone have a vegetable garden?

All the news from the peanut gallery and where all the nasty trash talk fails miserably.
It can get NSFW-ish here: you have been warned!

What, are you Pocahontas all of sudden?
That's racist.
In Disney. You're infatuated with John Smith. No mention that you are only 13. Ya Slut.
Possibly the creepiest thing anyone has said to me all day, and I was on a porn site earlier.
It's Sunday. He's drunk. He gets day drunk every Sunday.
Ya, Sunday is beer, Monday and Tuesday is paint thinners, Wednesday is glue, Thursday and Friday its poppers and that nitrogen gun he plays with which is lube for the week-end with the boys.

My sister in law has a massive garden (2k sq ft). Basically anyone that wants to pick something are welcome to it. They have a spring that dumps out of the ground relatively close to the garden and they traded a bunch of horse manure for a pump and hoses - if needed the garden can easily be watered.

Our niece and the wife's uncle each have at least a 1k sq ft garden. Since they all spend the night at our place rather routinely - we get several huge baskets of veggies and smoked ribs several times per year.

That's a pretty sweet setup. That's got to produce a ton of stuff! I used to do that much but it got to the point where my family couldn't keep up with the yield; even with giving a ton of it away. I've since cut waaaay back. We do about 5 or 6 tomato plants, 3 or 4 broccoli plants and 5 or 6 pepper plants. That seems to be the sweet spot for us. Throw in strawberries growing all over the place, raspberry and blackberry bushes growing like weeds and we have plenty of tasty fresh fruits and veggies.

Once you grow your own veggies and fruit you realize how bland store bought stuff is. Homegrown tomatoes and strawberries are just two things that blow store bought shit right to dust. You also know for certain that chemicals and other assorted additives havent been sprayed on. Plus there is the added bonus of Jose and Maria not taking a shit on your veggies.
Home grown tomatoes are pretty much a different species from store bought.

Seeing this made me laugh at a memory. Anyone ever read "Lake Wobegon Days" by Garrison Keillor? Minnesota Lutheran Norwegian town. Everybody planted tomatoes in the Spring and rejoiced at the output. Until later in the Summer, when everyone was sick of tomatoes and started leaving bags of them on neighbor's porches in the dead of the night.

My quick morning haul. Most of my stuff is still small, but the peas have been producing for over a month and still going strong. The rest of the carrots I'm going to leave in longer, I was just curious how big they were now. The purple one is pretty cool!

QillerDaemon wrote: Sun Jul 07, 2019 7:44 pm I have various citrus bushes/trees: Key lime, a couple types of kumquats, and a big Meyer lemon. We also have a number of types of leafy spices, including a couple types of mints we use for cooking and drinks. I have a couple of jalapeno plants, and a beefsteak tomato plant that's sorely pissing me off. The wife loves her grape tomatoes, and she loves to push her crop into my face since my beefsteak has grown not a single one.

We're also going to put in some blueberry bushes for next year, and I'd dearly love to have a pomegranate tree. But neither of us are serious gardeners.
You have the life QD. Good job, awesome wife, nice cars, great garden, living in the best area in Florida... Yada Yada. Then when all I do is say one thing I have is nice people here put me down because of it. Go figure what's real on this planet. You are the champion.

I'm getting antsy. I've been taking the pot plant approach, as the fruit forms I've been scaling back the leaves so it has more energy for the fruit, is that how it's supposed to be done?
