It's not a nothingburger because of the coverage it got. The President of the US commented directly on the story (he was duped), so it clearly goes past the back pages of local news. It would have been a nothingburger if it was a regular joe getting attacked or faking his own attack, but people are obsessed with celebrity in all forms. That's sad, but it's sad way beyond this little shitshow. Kim Kardashian has made many multiples of the lifetime earnings of a teacher or even doctor based on having a big fat ass and a tv show. Society is fucked beyond repair. The amount of coverage some irrelevant actor got for making up a scene is just a symptom.

He did accomplish one thing. I never heard of the guy before. Now I have.

It sure should have. But the producers of all the "media" are pushing their agendas like there is no tomorrow. I wish there was a way to have all the legends of journalism (Cronkite, Murrow, Brinkley, endless list) come back to life and march into their former HQ's and start bashing heads together. It's their only hope of staying relevant. And it's almost too late- they just don't know it yet.
