a lady at the assisted living place my mom lived in had legs like that or quite similar and she had multiple sclerosis. It was kind of odd because she wasn't as old as the other people and seemed all there, just that leg problem so she was always in a wheelchair when I would see her. She had some depression issues (I think ?) also as there were a few times I would see her crying about this and that and a staff member or 2 would be trying to calm her down or whatever.
I have an old schoolmate that has been in a chair for about 40 years , motorcycle accident left him paralyzed from waist down. I spoke to him years after his accident just to tell him I've always been very sorry it happened to him and he was just "it is what it is but don't feel sorry for me, i still have use of everything else, in rehab there were people paralyzed from the neck down". He runs his family's heating/cooling business, the office stuff and keeps pretty busy with that, but it would be a rough way to go thru life.
