Friend of mine did it where you drive - said it was rather disappointing because of the speed restrictions. When riding you would likely go quicker.

Bunch of them have done the high end sports car thing like this where for $238 you drive a Ferrari or a Lamborghini around a track doing similar speeds. They do it every year.

I did one on a small track, the speed was governed but since I was mostly in turns I wasn't maxing it too often.

The friend that did the nascar type car - LOVES to rent those go-carts which get up to about 75 mph on those twisty tracks.
He also routinely does the time trial races on parking lots in his 240z and NSX. The go-cart thing I could see being pretty darn cool.

An old employer of mine owns a Topkart track in Quebec. Still go occasionally and have a blast.

Just a heads up.
It probably comes with a lot of waiting, and they do a limit on the revs/speed.
But he will enjoy it and get hyper and love his dad for paying for it.
