Fake Amber Alerts

#1

Post by Animal »

So I was listening to the news today at lunch. In Dallas a guy had his car stolen. So when he reports it to the cops he tells them his 4 yr old son was in the back seat when the car was stolen. An Amber Alert is issued. Within about an hour the car is found. But there is no 4 yr old kid. After a couple of hours police locate the kid at home with his mother. He had never been in the back seat of the car that night. Then they arrest the guy for filing a false police report.

I have heard of this happening a few other times around the state lately. Evidently people have learned that their stolen cars will be found (and found quickly) if a missing child is involved. They must have also learned that the punishment for filing a false police report far outweighs the consequences of whether your car will be found or not.

I read something about it being used in Canada as a Prime minister alert or something like that. A kidnapped kid in Toronto will alert phones 12 hours away. people were pissed

Around here they'll not only arrest and prosecute you for doing this, they'll bill you for the increased cost of responding to the amber alert.

My truck was stolen in 1988, When it was recovered it had 12 parking tickets on it dating back to the first day I reported it. If any of these cops had done a trace, I would have had it back in a day or two. Not the 6 weeks it took.

Next time, my truck has a kid in it.

This is why I swing past the primary school each morning on my way to work. I shove a kid in the boot, leave a window cracked - fully justified amber alert if it ever gets boosted. Just hand them a sick note to give to the teacher next day and threaten to kill their momma if they say anything, everyone's happy.

In murica they mandate these escape pulls, makes it difficult to use the trunk. Duct taped in the back seat with a blanket over them

Are parking tickets usually written by the police in your area? I've had multiple parking tickets locally and I've never had one written by an actual police officer. Meter maids are not cops.

Well I guess that's the end of the boot as a prisoner transfer system, no way I can see to remove a flimsly bit of plastic from a tiny little chain.

You might be correct. But wouldnt a windshield full of tickets tip someone off to check it out? I remain ticked off 30 yrs later.

I think it would depend upon the location.

I've seen people complain that they don't tow the vehicle to avoid racking up more tickets but that's $180 flat plus $30 per day.

30 years ago I dated a girl who had her car stolen. The police admitted after the fact they were watching kids drive the car and were waiting to pull it over when the driver was someone they wanted for other crimes. They ended up trashing it before that happened.

In some places, they have meter maids etc doing this. They don't look up anything. I doubt they can.

I've never understood why trunk victims didn't simply get on their backs with their feet facing the top of the trunk. Apply pressure - your legs are incredibly strong - and it should be enough to bend the truck hood and then force the latch open when it's askew. Do this in traffic and you're sure to get spotted.

If a car is put into the system as stolen, shouldn't something pop up if a ticket is issued for it?

No, but a computer can track things like parking tickets.

I didn't know they still did hand written tickets. The meter maids Ive seen have handheld units that are connected wirelessly to whatever system they use.

Some localities don't buy the fancy toys. Pennsylvania doesn't allow local police to even own radar
