I don't understand the laughing ignorance. Did I misspell a word or something. Both my Dad and Sister received retirement packages worth millions plus. Full benefits until death. How hard is that comprehend. My Dad's retirement package in 1987 was valued at $1.4 Million. Laugh away and vote for the Dems at your expense.

They give anecdotal stories aboot their small businesses. And, while that's awesome that they treat their employees well, there was a reason that unions became necessary in the mid 1800's. I guarantee that withoot them, the big companies would set all the wage rates, and it would be a race to the bottom. Not to mention workplace conditions. As has been said here, it's already happening with large companies like Walmart and Amazon. And, look at China who have no unions, and look at the wages they're getting paid. Not to mention working conditions. It's not just coincidental. You want a race to the bottom when it comes to wages? That's what would happen.spudoc wrote: ↑Sun May 05, 2019 8:00 pmIt is true for the majority of large companies. My profits (small business) come directly from the employees and their performance (along with my ability to run the company). I spend more time keeping them happy and trying to improve their working conditions (better equipment, better tools, etc.) When they get bonuses at the end of the year (based on profits, time they have worked, their value to the crew they are on, and their job title), its cash money in their pockets. And I don't give it a day before Christmas, I give it at least 2 weeks before Christmas.kwebber wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 8:46 pm I'm non union but I understand the need for unions. Would you anti union guys prefer no unions at all? Would you prefer companies and corporations set pay rates and working conditions? If that is what you really believe is right, then you need to give your collective heads a shake. If you think for a second that companies and corporations want what's best for their employees, you are delusional. Companies want to maximize profits for owners, and shareholders. If that comes at the expense of pay, or working conditions, too bad. Why do you guys think unions were formed in the first place? If you want to bitch at anyone, instead of bitching about unions, bitch to your governments. They're the ones who sign international free trade agreements, so that manufacturing jobs go to the countries that pay the lowest wages. Don't blame unions.
Middle men (unions, insurance, government, etc) never add to the bottom line, no matter which end of the spectrum you are on.
You and Cheezy appear to run businesses that have a human component. Big companies tend to lose sight of that

Back in my manufacturing and supervision days I developed a solid reputation within the industry here of being a guy who could help get a facility back on track. I was an admitted mercenary and when I got a place back to where it should be I lost interest very quickly and was on to the next job.
I say this only to develop the context and background of what I'm saying. I've worked in many places; large and small. The best part of my career in that industry is after I'd go into a union facility, straighten it up and have the good people in the union privately come up to me and say "thank you." Believe me, the good union workers also hate the dipshits that give unions a bad name.

I dont think anyone disputes that unions helped get things right for common laborers. I certainly dont. Where the issue lies with unions is the protection of shit workers and a payscale beyond rationale ie: $40 an hour for holding a sign, 130k per year putting a washer on and pushing a button etc.kwebber wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2019 2:13 amThey give anecdotal stories aboot their small businesses. There is an ungratifying sort of balance, or tug-o-war if you will in the US. I'm not particularly a fan of unions, especially for teachers and government employees in CA. They seem to have to much sway imo. But, I'd hate to think what things would be like without them. I feel the same way about our politcal system. I don't care for either the far left, or the far right, but there needs to equalizing pressure. These things are never in perfect balance, but over the long haul, so far anyway, we've been able to lead consistanty more productive, and rewarding lives regardless of who had the advantage in any limited period of time.

Yep. It's important to have balance and people need to be able to fight back when one side gets too powerful.B-Tender wrote: ↑Wed May 08, 2019 7:48 pm There is an ungratifying sort of balance, or tug-o-war if you will in the US. I think beagle and I were saying we don't want either side to have too much power.Reservoir Dog wrote: ↑Wed May 08, 2019 8:55 pmAnd if it's the union that gets too powerful?beagleboy wrote: ↑Wed May 08, 2019 7:55 pmYep.
