Ever have an implant or root canal?

Ever have an implant or root canal?

#1

Post by VinceBordenIII »

I had several root canals around 20 years ago. Maybe caused by youthful meth abuse catching up later. One of the procedures apparently cracked a molar, and I didn’t feel any pain, so got nothing done for another 8 years after discovery.

Long story short, they pulled the molar, had to rebuild the bone because of years of undetected - or denied - deep infections, and now I’m in a lot of pain. Donated bone, yech! But they’ll put in a crown in 6 months or more.

Take care of your teeth, kids. By the time I started, the damage was done.

I concur, instead of paying for a crown 30 years ago, I chose the cheap way and now I'm getting ready to have my last 8 teeth pulled. rebuild the bone and hopefully in two years have a full set of teeth again.

Jeeze, did you ever brush your teeth or see a dentist when you didn't have pain?

Read an article earlier this week that for something like 99% of Americans - having more than 3 root canals in your entire life means your dentist is likely cheating you. There is a shitload of quacks in the dental industry and it's basically a goldmine if they can find a few hypochondriacs to fill out their practice. One of their keys was to NEVER have your primary dentist do a root canal. Also if a dentist tries to upsell you an appliance like an electric tooth brush - RUN.

Mechanical toothbrushes have resulted in drive by cleanings for me. They really work. And dentists sell toothpaste with a very high amount of fluoride. Mine told me if everybody used it he'd be out of business,

They are fine but professionals shouldn't be selling devices on the side to make some extra cash. I wouldn't buy a treadmill from my general practice doctor.

I had no pain and ignored various dentists' pleas to get it fixed. Didn't realize it would eat into the bone.

Went to Aspen Dental last October because a crown they put in 2 years ago fell off. The hygenist told me I have an infection that can actually cause my bone to retreat away from it and cause serious problems. Havn't been back since. Now last month I broke my front tooth on a fork while eating meatloaf at Cheddars. Guess I'll be going back soon. $$$$

The real Murphy would've ended that post with an all caps "FUCK!"
