Gene Roddenberry was a LA motorcycle cop back in the early 60's. Kept submitting his screenwriter idea about a "Western in Space" to the studios. Never heard back. Heard a bunch of NBC executives were lunching at some restaurant in LA. Drove his motorcycle through the front door to their table and handed them his screenplay. True story.
